I think the better question is – why not?
If you’re working to build a relationship with your reader, why approach it from the product, as in book marketing, instead of from you, the author? It’s like putting the cart before the horse. My coaching program puts the emphasis on the author and then the work.
Remember, you’re a small business.
When I started working in publishing, I realized the author wasn’t any different from a small business. And after having worked in small business marketing for nearly 30 years, I knew I could translate most of what I’d successfully managed for small businesses, into programs and systems that could help self- and indie-published authors. By flipping the perspective and putting the emphasis on the author as a business and the book as a product, authors are free to build their platform around their unique brand. And honestly, one book always leads to the second, and third… so why limit your marketing to that first book?
